…and that theme music is killing me!
On Friday, Gal Gadot shared the official poster for the spinoff film. “Power. Grace. Wisdom. Wonder,” it read, adding that it’d be coming in Summer 2017. Yes, we still have a year to go. Gal was joined at the panel with director Patty Jenkins as well as co-stars Chris Pine, (who plays Steve Trevor, her love interest) and Connie Nielsen (who plays Queen Hippolyta, Diana’s ruler and mother).
However, we did get the first trailer of the film that will be based on the character we met in Batman V Superman. So there aren’t any invisible jets in the trailer, but there’s tons of drama and intrigue! We meet Diana back in the 1940s, during WWII. Let’s just say that even the world’s greatest soldiers have nothing on an Amazonian warrior woman and her trusty golden lasso. “I can’t let you do this,” Steve says to Diana at one point. “What I do isn’t up to you,” she responds. Wonder. Woman!
“Wonder Woman is getting the respect of having her own movie!” Gal said previously in an interview with Glamour magazine, where she also explained getting that first call from Director Zack Snyder. “He said, ‘I don’t know if you have this in Tel Aviv, but…have you ever heard of Wonder Woman?’ My jaw dropped. I tried to sound nonchalant, like, ‘Oh yeah, Wonder Woman, sure.’”
Of course, it was important for her to play because of “how independent she is,” and that as a superhero, she’s not there for anyone but herself. “She has so many strengths and powers, but at the end of the day she’s a woman with a lot of emotional intelligence. She’s loving,” she said.
“I think women are amazing for being able to show what they feel. I admire women who do. I think it’s a mistake when women cover their emotions to look tough. I say let’s own who we are and use it as a strength.”
