Bollywood filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker says he was fascinated by the world which existed before the mankind started recording history, and this curiosity led him to make Mohenjo Daro.
Starring Hrithik Roshan and the newcomer Pooja Hegde, the movie is set in the ancient city of Mohenjo-daro in the era of the Indus Valley civilisation.
Gowariker took over three years to develop the film.
"Mohenjo Daro is not just another historical; it's pretty much even before history begins. It's literally going back in the womb of time. It's a world that I am most fascinated with - who were the people, how did they live, what was the society like, are some of the questions which always intrigued me. I am thankful that I got this opportunity to explore that world through cinema," Gowariker said in a statement.
According to the new findings, based on the carbon dating conducted on animal remains and pottery fragments, the Indus Valley civilisation dates back to 8000 BC, making it one of the most ancient civilisations, he noted.
Also starring Kabir Bedi and Arunoday Singh, Mohenjo Daro will release on August 12.
