Varun Dhawan clarifies on the recent Sikh controversy plaguing Dishoom

The recently released song 'Sau Tarah Ke' from the forthcoming action drama Dishoom fuelled up a controversy after the release of its teaser video. The Sikh community was left miffed over an allegedly inappropriate portrayal of Kirpan, one of the five Kakkars worn by a practicing Sikh. However, clarifying on the same was co-actor Varun Dhawan.

Soon after the release of the teaser video of 'Sau Tarah Ke', the General Secretary of the Gurudwara Management Committee, Manjinder Singh Sirsa reportedly sent a notice to Pahlaj Nihalani, CBFC Chief asking him to remove the song from the film. He apparently claimed that the song which has Jacqueline wearing a short white dress grooving to the beats with a 'dagger' of sorts tied to the waist, allegedly portrayed the spiritual Kirpan in the wrong manner. However, co-star Varun Dhawan who also features in the song along with John Abraham, have stated that the weapon used in the song is not a kirpan at all but it is an Arabian dagger. Adding that they have shot the song in Morocco, Varun further insisted that he and his brother Rohit (who is also the director of Dishoom) belong to a Punjabi family and would never do anything to hurt the religious sentiments of their community.

Dishoom also stars Saqib Saleem, Nargis Fakhri in important roles and is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. The film is slated to release on July 29.
