The latter half of the year is packed with big films
The first half of the year has been quite an eventful one for the South Indian film industry. Many big films like Nannaku Prematho, Theri, Sardaar Gabbar Singh, Brahmotsavam and many others have released over the last six months. But it just gets better for fans of South films, for the next six months promises more films than you can imagine. From Rajinikanth’s Kabali to Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam 2, here are 10 films you need to watch out for…
Kabali
The entire country is talking about Kabali right now. It stars Rajinikanth playing an aged gangster and the hype on the movie is insane. The film is releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malay on July 15 and there are already talks that the Thalaivar might even beat SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali in collections.
Achcham Yenbathu Madamaiyada
This one is an ambitious bilingual remake by Gautham Menon. While the Tamil version stars Simbu, the Telugu version stars Naga Chaitanya. The trailer and especially the music albums of both the versions have received rave praise from all fans and the film is expected to tentatively release on July 25.
Majnu
Majnu is a very big film for Tollywood, for it is a remake of Malayalam film Premam. If this Naga Chaitanya starrer remake is done properly, then it can become as massive as Premam or maybe even bigger. The catch is that the makers of the film are struggling for a release but the film is expected to release in July.
Dhanush fans are yet to get their first film this year and it is going to be Thodari. The Prabhu Solomon film promises to be a nail biting, high octane thriller and its trailer was really praised by all. Everyone is also excited to see the combo of Dhanush and Keerthy Suresh. The film will be released either on July 29 or August 5, the makers are yet to decide.
White
Mammootty has many movies in store, but the biggest one is White. From the trailer of the film, White promises to a stylish love story, completely set in London. Also, it marks the debut of Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi, who is a very good performer. The movie’s tentative release date is July 29.
Pulimurugan
Kerala superstar Mohanlal’s first offering for his fans this year is going to be Pulimurugan. The teaser of the action adventure film was released on the actor’s birthday. The film will see Lalettan playing a hunter, a one of a kind role that has given his fans plenty of reasons to be excited about. The release is currently said to be July 7, but that looks highly unlikely as the trailer has also not been released so far.
Janatha Garage
After the success of Nannaku Prematho, Jr NTR has shot into superstardom so this film Janatha Garage is crucial for his career. In this film we will also see Mohanlal and Jr NTR sharing the screen, a fact that makes the film interesting for both Telugu and Malayalam audiences. The Koratala Siva film is expected to release on August 12.
Iru Mugan
Vikram fans are dying to watch his next film which is Iru Mugan. The Anand Shankar mystery thriller has a tremendous hype and after the Hollywood like teaser of the film, the excitement has skyrocketed. Although it doesn’t look like the film will release anytime before September or end of August, you can expect some fireworks at the box office when it does release.
Vishwaroopam 2
As soon as Vishwaroopam came out, Kamal Haasan finished shooting for the sequel in a few months time. The release of the spy thriller has been delayed for more than year but it looks like it will finally release on Diwali this year along with Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay, at least that’s what the rumours are suggesting.
Singam 3
Although we haven’t heard anything from the S3 team after the first look, rest assured that you will witness Suriya as Duraisingam once again by the end of the year. Director Hari is known for wrapping up his films in record time, so we might see sudden announcements about the film’s trailer anytime soon.
So that brings this list to a close. Let’s just say that most of your remaining half of 2016 is going to be spent in theatres.
